Becoming A Volunteer
People choose to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some people it is the chance to give something back to the community, for others it is an opportunity to build on existing experience and knowledge. We rely heavily upon our volunteer’s hard work and dedication in continuing to deliver quality services.
In recognition of volunteer’s commitment, we nominated them for BVSC Volunteer Team of the Year and were thrilled to be Runner’s Up. We also invited volunteers to Afternoon Tea in June to say ‘thank you’.
We are always looking for more volunteers to support new and existing services. We are keen to recruit volunteers with IT skills to support our existing silver surfers group. Over the next few months, we will be looking for volunteers to support our new befriending project.
To apply for a volunteer role, you will need to fill in a short application form. We will then invite you to an informal meeting to discuss the volunteer role further.
We will also ask for references before you start volunteering. Please give the details of two people (preferably not friends or family members) who can comment on your suitability to volunteer.
Some of our volunteer roles will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If this is something you need to do we will ask you to complete the form and tell you what ID is required. Please note that if you do not need a DBS check we will still need to see ID before you start volunteering.
The process of starting to volunteer can take a number of weeks, but we will strive to get all your checks processed as quickly and efficiently as possible. If your circumstances change while you are awaiting your start date, please let us know.
Once we have completed the recruitment paperwork, we will arrange a date and time for you to come in for your volunteer induction. This is an opportunity for us to talk about your volunteering role in more detail. You will be issued with a volunteer handbook
